week 2

Word of the week

abscond: To depart secretly; to steal away and hide oneself -- used especially of persons who withdraw to avoid arrest or prosecution.

This week, I want to talk about a famous painting by an expressionist painter, Edvard Munch: The Scream. The subject in this painting is an alien-like figure with a white haunted face right in the middle of the piece. One of the crucial elements that make this painting full of emotion is the rich and intense colors. Munch used red-orange to describe the setting sun, and its complimentary color blue to create such a big contrast for the piece. The entire piece is lines of colors that create the movement and direction for this all time famous painting. Edvard Munch created many different version of “The Scream” with various media such as paint, oil pastel and ink. Each medium appear different visually, but the feeling that the piece give the audience stays the same. I would like to learn more, what make Edvard Munch recreated the same scenery in different versions.
